Media Notes: Mercy

We’re both big science fiction fans and tend to watch just about everything that comes out. Most recently it was the release, Mercy, with Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson. I wasn’t aware of Pratt until the Guardians films as I never watched Parks and Recreation. I guess it was one of the early Mission Impossible films that I first saw Ferguson. I’ll quickly recommend her work in Doctor Sleep, the Dune series, and definitely Silo.

Mercy takes place in the near future where AI is being used to quickly judge and punish violent criminals. Pratt is a cop who finds himself on trial for the murder of his wife. Ferguson is the AI judge, jury, and executioner. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence. It’s a fast-moving, race against time told through surveillance footage and computer screens.

We found fun, entertaining, and enjoyable. It’s not great science fiction filmmaking but we didn’t regret the decision to watch it. If you’re a fan of science fiction films, then you might enjoy Mercy.
