Media Notes: Tow

We’re blessed to have a small, independent movie theater nearby. Last month, we were treated to the latest Jim Jarmusch film, Father, Mother, Sister, Brother. It’s a wonderful anthology film about family relationships, struggles to understand each other, and how little we know about the people closest to us.

This last weekend, we saw Tow starring Rose Byrne. Based on true events, it tells the story of a woman struggling with homelessness and seeking gainful employment. Through a turn of events, the car she’s been living in is stolen, recovered and taken to a towing company. The film documents her year long battle with an uncaring corporation while providing an unblinking view of homelessness, mental health issues and substance abuse.

It’s a great film that deserves a wider audience. Byrne is amazing as Amanda Ogle. She’s supported by a strong cast including Octavia Spencer.

Highly recommended.
